D'un poulain classique aux origines inédites
Le Critérium de Saint-Cloud clôturait dimanche 11 novembre le programme classique de la saison française 2007 sur l'hippodrome du même nom. Disputé sur 2000 mètres en terrain très souple (ce qui est plutôt léger pour la saison), cette épreuve exigeante fournit souvent de futurs très bons chevaux de 3 ans. Full of God reste néanmoins un lauréat atypique, par son modèle (plus d'1m70 à 2 ans!), par son parcours (il venait de remporter son maiden après l'avoir tutoyé par deux fois, et franchissait ici un grand palier), et par ses origines. Sa mère, Funny Feerie, lauréate de trois courses sur les obstacles, avait naturellement été envoyée à des étalons à vocation d'obstacle. Mansonnien et Turgeon, ses deux premiers géniteurs, ne donnèrent pourtant que des poulains bien moyens dans cette discipline. Alec Head décida alors d'envoyer cette jument imposante vers l'étalon maison, Gold Away, quant à lui, petit par la taille. Finalement, on cherchait l'équilibre entre ces deux modèles. Le résultat n'est pas tout à fait celui escompté car le poulain est gigantesque mais il n'en est pas moins très bon. Son entraîneur, Christiane Head, n'hésite d'ailleurs pas à le comparer à Bering. Autant dire que son avenir semble rayonnant.
